The Plan
The infantry was made up of 3 different battalions each consisting of about 1,000 men. Every battalion had 3 rifle companies which consisted of up to 240 men. There was also a support company up to 190 men with each battalion. Omaha Beach was split up between 10 differnet areas, their names were: Able, Baker, Charlie, Dog Green, Dog White, Dog Red, Easy Green, Easy Red, Fox Green and Fox Red. There were also three tank battalions and each battalion had 16 tanks. The landings were to start at 6:30 am, also know as H-hour. By the end of the day, the forces on Omaha beach were supposed to have made a 5 mile deep beachhead, link up with the British 50th division to the East, and be able to move to the American VII Corp. at Utah Beach to the West.
